'No DVR transcoder' Error

Remote DVR seems to work great except I can’t seem to stream anything even when the quality is set to “original” and I am using WiFi on a remote network (not cellular connection). Is this correct behavior? I can browse the DVR and make recordings just fine, it seems to work great except for actually playing. I have quality for Home streaming and Internet Streaming set to “Original”.

Using iOS client on iPad Pro (wifi version). Server is a Synology DS1817.

I understand if the server is not powerful enough to transcode realtime but if the quality is set to original should it not skip transcoding?

Thanks

What is your home Internet Upload speed? Have you done a speed test?

Your NAS has an ARM processor, which is not powerful enough to transcode video.

Original streaming should work, but I guess the app is not allowing it to. I will take a look at this bug.

My upload speed is pretty fast, about 10Mbps iirc. I think this should be fast enough, although it is possible it’s not. However, it seems to fail instantly instead of “trying”.

Some HD mpeg2 streams are 12-16Mbps, so that might not be enough.

Yes I understand the ARM-based NAS are generally not fast enough for realtime transcoding, I ran into this issue with Plex which is one of the reasons I switched to Channels. I appreciate your time to check this out. It does seem like it might be a bug of some kind. Cheers.

I sent you a beta with a fix for this bug. Please try it and let me know if it works.

This fix is included in the latest version available on the App Store.

Thanks very much – I have not had an opportunity to test from an outside WiFi yet but I will soon I hope.

Cheers.

Thanks for the fix, seems to work now when I have enough bandwidth available. Cheers

Hello, I have the same problem - No DVR Transcoder. Channels DVR not powerful enough....I have a synology 214+ with the specs (MARVELL Armada XP MV78230,
1.33 Ghz, 1024 MB memory). Is there a fix for this?

Thank you!

The only fix is to use more powerful hardware for the dvr
