No record button on iPhone and iPad while watching live TV

On Apple TV the app shows a record button while watching live TV when swiping down via Apple TV remote app.

However, when using the app on an iPhone or iPad while watching live TV (on the said device its self) when taping the screen to show info, seek, etc.. there is a lack of a record button/option.

The only way to record on iPhone / iPad is in the prompt what to do when selecting a live program in the guide. Unfortunately when backing out to return to the prompt menu to record the program then the watch buffer is gone when you leave live TV and is not apart of the recording when you begin recording from said menu prompt. Hence why the record button is expected while watching live TV.

The iOS app does not show a record button in its player. This is working correctly.

Additionally, the buffer in Channels is on the client not the server. Your current buffer is never included in your recording when starting a recording in this manner.

Why the lack of a recording option while watching live TV? It doesn't make any sense if Apple TV app version has it.

It’s simply a design decision based on the expectation that the mobile app is more likely to be used for consumption combined with the constraints of not having a lot of space to show a record button.

That expectation is wrong. You need to think of situations when somebody is using their Phone and/or Tablet exactly the same as using their [Apple] TV interchangeably. Which is rather strange point of view you have considering what literally everything else that is already exposed in that app variant for various settings down to tuner configuration.

And not enough screen space to show a record button? You can literally place a "Record" option in the drop down menu that you've already populated for closed captions, show stats, etc... Like come on, that's no excuse and I know how easy it is to add such an option. I've been programming for embedded systems to desktop machines and mobile devices going on 30+ years now.

You have a lot good going for the software, but just the most basic really wrong design decisions is making me reconsider continuing my subscription. Because what is the point in not allowing the user to easily record what they're watching live on one device but yet allow it on another. Does not make any logical sense what so ever.

Your suggestion is noted.
