Not able / don't know how to schedule a recording

Ok, this is really basic, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to actually schedule the DVR to record a TV show. This should be dead simple, right? I've searched the main website, and apparently this is so obvious that there isn't a how-to or step-by-step instructions that I can find.

I've successfully installed the server on my Mac Mini and set up an external hard drive as the recording directory. I just bought an HDHomeRun Prime cable box and installed my Verizon FiOS M-card. I have successfully logged into my Verizon account and all channels (including NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, etc.) are showing and I am able to watch them live. All good.

So how do I set up a Pass to record my fave news show every day at 6 PM?? I tried going to the show in the Guide, clicking on it, double-clicking on it, clicking and holding... nothing. I tried searching for the show - as the on-screen menu suggests - and the show is not found. It also does not show up in "On Later". How do you schedule a recording??

What am I missing here? I'm technically competent. I write code. I manage two WooCommerce websites. But I can't for the life of me set my DVR to record! :confounded::sob: Please help.

It sounds like you are trying to do this from the web ui and not a client such as Apple TV or fire stick. If on the web ui single click on the show and then click the gear icon.

It sounds like you didn’t set the lineup for your HDHomeRun. Did you give it your zip code and pick a lineup, in Channels DVR Server?

Please submit diagnostics from your Channels DVR Server web admin under Support > Teoubleshooting.

Thank you for the quick reply!

Actually, right after I posted my query, I went to the server on my Mac Mini and started poking around... I saw where you enter the zip code and choose the lineup, and I went ahead and did that. (Verizon Philly/Delaware) Then I noticed that I was able to set up Passes there in the server interface on the Mac. So I set up two Passes for my fave news shows on MSNBC and it seems to have worked. When I went back to the TV and looked, I saw that both shows were set to record. Yay!

Also if I go into "On Later", I can select a program and set up a Pass, no problem. Cool.

However I still can't select a listing directly from the Guide to record. If I click on a listing in the Guide, nothing happens. Not urgent at this point, as I have work-arounds, but this should work, right?

Thanks again!

Force quit the app and start it again.

It’s showing you guide data directly from your HDHomeRun because it had no guide data from your server. This is why you don’t have recording options.

Restart the app and you’ll be fine forever and never have to do that again.

Then you’ll be able to choose guide items to have the option to record or create a pass.

Yes, thank you! This is the way. All good.

I had to google "force quit AppleTV app" and in the process I discovered a whole new dimension of tvOS. Brilliant. For the uninitiated, I highly recommend this Reddit post: "How to force quit an app on AppleTV?"

Many thanks again, maddox! Have a great weekend!
