Nov 12 Beta Tuners not releasing

Hi, recently started to observe that I would hit “playback failed” messages with some regularity when trying to change channels. Seems that the tubers aren’t getting released unless I force app

Diagnostics sent. Advice would be appreciated. Platform: 2015 nvidia shield

Check my.hdhomerun.com under Tuner Status and see what channels it says are tuned and from which IPs

I did. All tubers were locked to the ip of the shield I was operating channels from. I then forced channels closed and the tuners released

Did the diagnostics I had sent last night around my first post help?

Nothing unusual in the diagnostics. Is this happening repeatedly?

This sounds like a problem I just had. No tuners were in use prior to the problem. I was switching between local channels delivered by two hd homerun tuners. I have a 2-tuner extend and 4-tuner quatro; both with identical channel listings.

Did a controlled test to see if I can reproduce the error. Rebooted Channels server, terminated the Channels app and rebooted Shield.

Switched between channels to reproduce the error. After surfing from one channel to another, I got the playback failed error. My hd homeruns show the channels in use. I exited the channels app on the shield but did not terminate it. Tuner sharing is on in the Channels app.

While the error active, on the settings tab for the Channels server, the Activity information shows the following (nothing should have be active):

Watching ch15.1 ABC15 from 192.168.1.150.
Watching ch10.1 KSAZ-DT from 192.168.1.150.
Watching ch12.1 KPNX-HD from 192.168.1.150.
Watching ch5.1 KPHO-HD from 192.168.1.150.
Watching ch61.1 KASW-HD from 192.168.1.150.

Going back to the shield (on the home screen) I double click home and terminated the channels app the Activity information now shows Idle and everything works. hd homerun tuners changed to idle as well.

This "feels" like a Channels App issue not a server issues, but I don't know that.

One last observation - I get more playback failed message on screen than show in the log.

Thanks for the details. Does the same thing happen with Tuner Sharing off?

I will try with tuner sharing off.

Yes, the errors happened again with tuner sharing off, but it took much longer for the errors to appear on screen. Interesting, there are no Log errors this time.

Also, the hd home run shows the tuners active. Once I terminate the channels app (double click home and press the "x") the tuners free up. Interesting the Channels dvr activity did not report this as activity during the failure compared to the test with tuner sharing on.

I'm not able to reproduce this issue.

How are you changing channels? If you leave the player to go back to the guide, does the tuner still show in use?

What is the exact version number shown in the Android app?

This is exactly what I saw too. As soon as I closed Channels doing this on the shield, I could see that the tuners were released via myhdhomerun.

I do tend to use the up and down from within the video player, so it’s possible it’s that...

To change channels, I press the back button which returns me to the guide (grid); I then select a new channel.

The version of the Channels App is 112017.

The tuners show in use until I close the app. If I just return to the home screen, the channels continue to show in use. Once I double click (from the home screen) and select Channels DVR to close it, the channels are freed up.

Can you submit diagnostics from the app after playing a channel and leaving the player.

I will send the diagnostics and report back when completed.

As I stated before, when tuner sharing is on, the Channels server shows the activity despite nothing being played/viewed on the tv. Turning off tuner sharing the same issue occurs but there is no indication that tuners are still active in the Channels server activity section.

Tuner sharing goes through the DVR, so it knows the activity. Without tuner sharing the app connects directly to the HDHR, so the DVR doesn't see it. That's normal.

Ok. Good to know.

Reproduced the error and sent diagnostics from the Channels App.

Okay I was able to see an issue in the latest diagnostics. I'm uploading a new build v11212336 now with a possible fix. Please try that and let me know if its fixed, and send new diagnostics if not.

I've been experiencing this problem for a week or so. Have to force close to fix.

Received the new version on my Shield this morning. I can not reproduce the problem. Looks like you fixed it. Thank you!
