Ntpd error resolving pool error happening weekly

About once a week my channels dvr free-bsd setup stops working and the log fills up with:

dhclient[nnn]: send_packet: No Buffer...
ntpd[nnn]: error resolving pool 0.frg: Non-recoverable failure in name resolution...

Any thoughts? I'm paying $8/ month for a service that is dodgy.

Which log are you referring to? It would be helpful to see the entire log messages not just the truncated ... versions.

Are there any errors in the DVR's log?

Looks like it's an error with ntpd, which is the Network Time Protocol daemon, which keeps computer clocks synchronized. Based on the error, you have a pool of "0.frg" set as a source of NTP server addresses, and your computer cannot resolve "0.frg" into an IP address.

Without additional details, this is simply an error with other software on your computer, and has nothing to do with Channels.

The rest of this error message would be helpful. I'm guessing something like "No Buffer Space available" which suggests some sort of network stack related resource exhaustion.

It would also be helpful to know what version of FreeBSD you're using.

There are some similar reports in https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/dhcp-client-no-buffer-space-error.58709/ which suggest a failing network driver.

EDIT: Another similar report here: https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-stable/2005-August/017616.html

There was a curious error in the log that said "This user is stupid because he put a dodgy cat5e ethernet cable into the Channels DVR machine.". Seems I had a bad cable because I couldn't ping anything. New cable fixed it all. We can close this. Sorry!
