Number/multiple of Recording Engines/Selectable engine?

Will the Channels DVR engine support multiple recording engines on the same local network? Example: I may want to install it on a NAS and a windows/Linux machine so when I select “record” on a program it will detect the two engines and let me select the destination.

If that is not possible, then the ability to have two engines on the network and have an option in Channels app to select which engine to use to record to.

Another question would be if the engine(s) can be selected by IP address.

The initial version assumes only one DVR installation is available on the network. The app finds the DVR engine using bonjour discovery which is commonly used by Mac apps.

In the future we may support multiple DVR engines on the network.

The way Channels DVR works is similar to MythTV, in that guide data, recording rules and all other metadata is stored directly inside the engine. There is no cloud component so recordings will continue even if internet access is lost. This means it usually makes more sense to move all your settings and rules data to a new server rather than run two side by side.
