Nvidia Shield - Guide Button

Can you map the shield remote guide button to open the channels guide?

What else can you do with this remote?

What "Guide" button?
The NVIDIA Shield remote has no such button.

Maybe u mean the Netflix button?

U can use a app called "Button Mapper" and use the add custom button option, to make the Netflix button on the remote do many things, it can launch the Channels app, but, there is no way to make it load direct to the guide.

Such function does exist on the TiVo Stream 4K device and its remote(since it has many more buttons) when u activate the Channels Button Mapper option ins accessibility. I have one of those and it work fine, most of the time.

Lol forget it. I returned it.

I had the shield for a few hours and played around with it. I prefer the Apple TV. Channels seems to be more up to date on the Apple device.

The apps are the same now, far as i read. The Android tv version has always lagged behind the Apple tv version as far as development goes.

The Shield is the #1 rated and desired Android TV stream box, period.
Good for gamers to.

There are already threads of people sharing their ecosystem and device opinions and preferences...most can't stand the terrible remote the Apple tv has and third party remotes are extremely limited. If u are already a slave to the Apple ecosystem, then it most often becomes your preference anyways to access your content.

The Apple TV is nice, but it aggravates me that the sound is downrezed to 48K regardless of source signal. I have a number of concerts and other titles that are in 96K (or higher) TrueHD or DTS-MA-HD. Since I use my streaming for both Plex and Channels (and other streaming services), I use a Shield 2019 in my home theater, and use the apple in my studio where I'm less critical of it.

And, yeah, the Apple remote is too easy to give the wrong commands if I miss with a swipe. I've learned to leave it sitting on my desktop instead of picking it up.

I spent some time installing channels, plex, tivimate, snes emulators, Nvidia now, and side loaded Xbox game pass.

  • Channels is missing the kid section. Scrolling is much slower with the shield remote then Apple remote.
  • snes emulators are buggy and glitchy
  • side loading game pass worked but not great
  • plex appeared to be missing features in comparison to Apple TV
  • I managed to lock up the shield
  • and as for everything else, there is arcade gaming under Apple and as for triple games I have Xbox and ps5

One feature I did in fact liked, was find my remote...

As for the Apple TV remote. I’d love to find a good replacement that includes channel up/down and number inputting to change channels, but not loose the slide out menu.....

What model Shield did u use? there are 2 different 2019 models.

Note that the tube model has lower ram and is 32bit OS and can have lower performance for the things u said u tried.

The "Pro" model, is 64bit and has more ram and usb 3.0 ports.
I have not had any lag or issues or slownees at all with my shield pro.
U can enable the Dev options and speed up the Android system animations speed, to make it more zippy.

Pro

Mm. well, scrolling is instant for me. no lag or jank what so over. (using wired ethernet)
They only recnly have done work on the Channels Android TV app to make it like Apple, and is better in some aspect and configuration, some think.
I don't care for a Kids lable sort myself, but im sure they can add one at some point.
I don't use emulators, i use my PC for that.
I had Nvidia NOW and other games installed on it, for a while, when I first got it with the controller thing. Games were very smooth, and better looking than my 1st gen Xbox one i have collecting dust.(the only other counsel i have, aside from a 360. i use my beefy PC for games)
If u had freezing issues, your external usb drive may not have been up to par with the needed throughput specs. And dont use Sandisk memory chips or usb, they are crap and die fast. I changed to a Samsung T7 external sad, formatted as internal and the thing flys! Other than that, such issues is specific to that app and caused the system to freze to to poor codding in the app itself or something like that. Some android apps are not optimized for A TV OS. I have sideload many apps from my phone, most work fine though.
I use MPV, to play movie files localy. ALso use Emby for other home media use.
Reading the Shield forms, there are many users that, based on their additinal hardware setup, like av receivers and such, can have issues being picky over certain features and compatibility with functions with their specific tv hardware. Liek HDR, Atmos, etc. I use a computer monitor, not a tv so dont have to mess with all that.
Not sure what your issues were caused by, but, is not typical.
but, if u like the apple better, then...that your choice.
it is the 1st to get updates for Channels app anyway
