Nvidia Shield Pro slow transcoding HDHR channels

HDHR Live and HDHR recordings both have the same issues, however TVE Live and TVE recordings both seem to play fine on the web player

here is a screen shot of a TVE recording on the web player

Do you have deinterlacer set to Blend or Linear?

also, here is a screen shot of my DVR page if it helps

Deinterlacer is set to Linear

Try Blend see if any improvement

no change with Blend selected, I just resubmitted logs after i let it play a little longer on both Linear and Blend to give you a bigger sample size. d390bd80-cb4c-48e4-a15d-fabb8c5f8f7c .

After spending a few hours tinkering with it, the best results are setting the DVR to Hardware transcoder, Linear Deinterlacer, adaptive streaming off, 720p @ 6 mbps, and selecting the Old Transcoder, any deviation from these settings, (especially turning off the Old Transcoder) will cause unwatchable remote viewing of HDHR live TV and HDHR recordings.

Were you seeing the same issue on the stable DVR before you upgraded to pre-release?

I just started with the DVR on the Shield a few days ago and I upgraded it right after I installed it, so I don't have any history to compare it to

I will delete and start over with the stable version and post any updates, thanks!

After deleting the DVR server on the Shield and re-installing stable version 2020.09.14.2100 the transcoding problem still persists, both on the web player and while viewing on the Channels app on my samsung phone remotely. The only remedy is to turn on Old Transcoder, keep hardware transcoding and linear deinterlacer

What kind of storage device are you using with the SHIELD?

I am using an external 1TB verbatim HDD, formatted NTFS

Is it usb-powered or have a power brick? USB2 or USB3? The logs suggest the issue may be that the disk is not able to keep up with the new transcoder, which requires higher read/write throughput on the HDD

It is usb 3.0. USB powered, I will try disconnecting it and using the internal storage of the Shield to see if it helps and post updates. However this is the same external HDD I was using on my windows DVR server previously and I didn't run into this issue?

Could also be related to NTFS then, I'm not sure how fast the NTFS driver on Android is..

Update: So I went ahead and bought a Samsung 500GB SSD USB powered drive and tagged it as my primary drive and, I tagged my 1TB Verbatim USB HDD as a storage device. What a difference it made, I am now able to transcode HDHR Live and recordings @ 0.99x 60 fps, 1080p 10mbps, WITHOUT using the Old Transcoder, I am still using Hardware Transcoder, Linear Deinterlacer, adaptive streaming is off. Thanks for your help!, I will post any other updates as they come.

I unfortunately just posted a similar issue. Based on this discussion here, it sounds like the speed of the hard drive is the issue here and a SSD drive solved your problem. Am I correct?

Yes, The SSD solved all of my transcoding issues, I would also make sure to format a new drive to exfat, otherwise you may run into file size restrictions and errors with new DVR recordings.
