StoreMI supports using a NVME drive as cache for a hard drive. Is it a good idea to do this for a hard drive where Channels DVR is installed? Will the NVME drive wear out quickly?
Current setup is B450 Aorus M with NVME Windows drive leaving 4x SATA for storage. RAID 0 2x ST2000NX0403 for Channels DVR and Filezilla Server for IP cams. RAID 1 2x ST8000NM0055 for Plex Server.
I have a DC HC530 coming for this configuration: RAID 0 2x ST8000NM0055 for everything but Windows and the DC HC530 for scheduled backups of that array. Selling the 2x ST2000NX0403 should easily offset the cost of the DC HC530.
I could also configure like this: 1x DC HC530 for everything but Windows, a NVME in a PCIe slot as cache for that drive, and another 1x DC HC530 for scheduled backups. Selling the 2x ST8000NM0055 should offset most of the additional NVME and second DC HC530.
Did some further research. AMD recently rewrote StoreMI to add stability but dropped write acceleration in the process. I don't think I'll see near as much benefit as I hoped.
