Older video files won't play

Trying to play older video files I've been collecting for years. These play fine with Plex and VLC.

AVI files 2518 KB
Framerate 23.98
Bitrate: 128 KB

They either stagger when the play or won't play at all. My goal is to make a custom channel but these old files just won't play on Channels.

What client are you trying to play in and what happens when you do?

Please submit diagnostics from the client after attempting playback

Same here on Android clients running on Shield and Tivo Stream. If I switch to software decoding on client, .avi files will play normally. Diagnostics submitted.

That means the problem is with your device's hardware decoder. That is most likely not something that Channels can fix, as those are provided by your device manufacturer.

.avi files also fail to play as described in OP when "hybrid" is selected as decoder within channels client.

The same files play back fine in Kodi and Plex on Shield and Tivo stream.

Please send us a sample video: Dropbox - Submit files

File 12.monkeys.avi uploaded to Dropbox.

This file, along with may others that have the same issue, were ripped from DVD with Handbrake about 10 years ago.

Thank you for the sample.

I'm uploading a new APK beta now with a possible fix.

Older .avi files now play perfectly on new APK beta (Shield and TS4K) with video decoder set to default "hardware".

Many thanks!
