The “On Now” tiles which appear when Channels is in the top row have their artwork being cropped. It possibly looks like it’s 4x3 artwork scaled to fit a 16:9 tile?
Unfortunately the tvOS API for Top Shelf does not support 4x3 images up there.
Perhaps you could add blurred pixels or something to the sides like some news channels do to force it into proportion. It normally wouldn’t bother me, but if shows have text on the bottom like The Big Bang Theory does then it gets cropped and looks funky.
The On Now artwork and up next data is missing from about half my channels on multiple devices. (Vers. 2.1.8)
Please email [email protected] about missing guide data. There seems to be some sort of issue happening with Gracenote where some data is missing.
I support this request. Top Shelf looks really odd having the thumbnails cropped, especially as you can’t always see the title on the thumbnail.
Is there potential to crop the thumbnail, perhaps have a blurred border?
Just wondering if there’s been any changes to this limitation in the latest tvOS developer betas? It would be great if we could have uncropped 4x3 images in Top Shelf. Or, is there any possibility of automagically applying a blurred border around the images to make them 16x9?
No change in tvOS. The API takes a URL to an image, so it’s very complicated to try to apply any customizations to the image.
Is it possible to switch the Up Next thumbnails/artwork to the “poster” format (the one that’s already used for films)? Plex gets gets its guide data from Gracenote and uses the poster format for everything, so I assume Gracenote can provide the poster format in addition to the 4x3 format?
