ONN 4K Pro and PiP

I hate to open an old debate, but I am confused by comments that conflict with my evidence.

In a locked 2023 post I read:

PIP was removed from the Google TV OS, so this is a limitation also present on the CCwGTV. Only Android TV has PIP.

I am confused because I have recently bought ONN 4K TV Pro with Android TV 12 and it will not do PiP (as defined by ChannelsDVR). I have a FireStick with FireOS 8.1.x.x and it does do PiP.

Can someone please confirm and update whether this feature will actually work on ONN 4K TV Pro?

I don't know the answer but it depends on the Android version and the OEM.

I am confused for a few reasons actually:

  1. Google TV is splashed on the home screen and is "content" based unlike Android TV. However, in 'Settings/system/About' it clearly states Android TV OS Version 12.

  2. As I stated, it will not PiP. Therefore it appears to be behaving in conjunction with comment made by 'AtoZ0to9'. The device seems to be actually running GoogleTV.

I have the onn 4k pro and pip works fine. I have a wireless keyboard plugged into the USB port on the onn. You press the p key and it pops up the pip on the guide screen. I'm running Android TV 14.

Here's the one I use, but any that support Android should work fine.

You can also use the Google Home TV remote or the one from the Google TV app. They both have a keyboard.

I had written several paragraphs about how woefully outdated and clearly unsupported your hardware is, but deleted it all. Android is basically the Wild West with an anything goes ethos.

Your OS is now 4 years behind, and its system libraries will be too. That means even if your hardware can handle "today", your software is still stuck 4 years ago.

I wonder if it is due to the fact mine is only V12 and it appears to me it may actually be Google TV and not Android TV. I think I will try the keyboard trick just out of curiosity.

Mine is Google TV as well. Google TV is just an interface built on top of Android TV.

I don't have the patience or time to keep up on this shite anymore and I certainly didn't expect that a device fresh off the shelf would have been running a 4 year old OS. To be honest I don't see big benefit for the ONN over my older Firestick 4K Max. It's $85 here in Canada and I think there are other better options for a little more $$. It'll be going back pronto.

The onn. 4k Pro should be upgradable to android 14. They pushed out updates a few months ago. If you didn't get it then you can go to settings and update from there.

I have tried to upgrade using the settings/upgrade but it just tells me it's up to date.
