Most of the stuff I record I delete after watching but sometimes I record something I’d like to keep. Those things I move to another video folder that’s still accessible by Channels but I delete the recordings from the main DVR screen. When I do this it loses the commercial markers and I have to rescan for them. My feature request is for a way to relocate recordings in this way through Channels instead of through the OS that would preserve those commercial markers. Thanks!
Why move them at all? Is the drive you have recordings set to, too small?
If you turn on the option to export EDL files (bottom of Settings in your Channels DVR Server web admin) it will write a file with the commercial markers next to each recording. When you move the video file, move the EDL file too. Channels DVR Server will use it when importing as local content.
Instead of moving to an import, you could use the Additional Storage feature and let them stay around in the recordings database.
Really depends on what you're trying to achieve.
I just move them to get them out of the DVR list so that anything in the DVR is unwatched content. It’s on the same volume so not a space issue, just a housekeeping thing I do. I’ll look into that Excel file. I didn’t know that was an option. Thanks.
Okay I turned on the EDL export. When a recording is deleted will it also delete that file?

Delete protection. I have deletion of imports disabled to stop my wife from deleting imports after she watches them. But you want to maintain ability to delete dvr recordings

Shared media. I have Channels DVR pointed to my plex and CDVR content. But only have PLEX pointed to my plex (imports) content. I don't like random stuff cluttering plex. Plex only sees stuff o deem lomg term storage

One other question regarding these EDL files. Once the show has been reimported into Channels can the EDL file be deleted or does it need to remain as long as the video file does?

Another suggestion. Use a Collection and set it to show unwatched content. I do this for Movies because I have a ton of content and I wish that they would show if the show was watched/unwatched from the library view. Before I made this collection I would settle in on a movie I wanted to watch and then I go into the movie and I see the green bar only to discover I watched this movie 2 years ago.
