Option to re-record a show when the West Coast rebroadcast airs

It would be nice if a pass could be configured to record a new show again (replacing the original recording) when it is rebroadcast within 3 hours of the original airing.

There are at least two shows where the 3-hour West Coast rebroadcast is often preferrable to the original airing:

  1. Saturday Night Live occasionally fixes editing mistakes in Digital Shorts
  2. If major news breaks after the original broadcast, the PBS News Hour will update their West Coast broadcast

The guide data for both of these shows indicates that the rebroadcast is simply a tape-delayed airing of the original broadcast. And while that is usually true (the editors of the guide data have made the right classification here), exceptions like those above still make re-recording worth it sometimes.

In addition, there are many shows that air earlier on TVEverywhere channels with lower picture quality (and no surround sound). The QAM broadcasts of those shows are preferable once they are available.

ha - jinx!

although - from the announcement yesterday i got the impression that the west coast version of PBS NewsHour was going to be a thing going forward regardless of whether or not there was new news to report...? if so this should really be a new show in the guide data, but i still agree with your feature request in general...

You're right! It looks like they're going to update a portion of the rebroadcast every day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B5o9lhQrNQ

Another one to add.. the CBSN channel rebroadcasts the West Coast edition of the CBS Evening News at 10pm EST every night. It is named different, so you can record both of those broadcasts easily
