I guess I could be next I have 2 Primes.
Very frustrating. Hoping it takes longer to make it to my account.
My cards were getting an error saying they needed to be replaced/upgraded. When I called Comcast they said they will not issue new ones, so I had to stop using them altogether.
I believe they are gradually removing whatever infrastructure that is needed to support cablecards.
Without the mandate that they support cablecards, this was inevitable.
Yes I'm sure
I looked at that thread, but not convinced I'll get the channels I need, and I'll be at the whim of Fubo using DRM. At this point, I think I'm going to avoid the hassle and just go with a mainstream solution.
Oh I have no doubt at some point it will get "broken" at some point. Unsure if it's 2 months or 2 years. I'm willing to hold on, and perhaps eventually migrate over to ADHC or other solution, but we'll see when the time comes if something isn't better out there.
here’s an interesting comment that may explain this, quoted in a similarly-themed, current thread in the TiVo forum:
Who knows, but I’m skeptical they’ll ‘fix’ it. Either way, no access now so I need another solution. I’ve decided to move on. I hope for those holding out that they fix it.
FYI A few months ago, in response to Comcast announcing they would no longer replace failed Cablecards, I read somewhere from a tech that Comcast is starting to upgrade other infrastructure in November that would render Cablecards useless. That’s consistent with what I’m seeing. Probably not coincidentally Comcast had brought down our entire neighborhood for a day to provide network upgrades just before my CCs stopped working.
When switching us over to their newest modem w/voice last month, Comcast sent a technician to our house to check out performance issues we were having and he ultimately installed all new cabling from the street to the house and placed a work order for burying them. This tech was the most knowledgeable person I've spoken to at Comcast in 30 years of dealing with them.
We have a TiVo at each of our TVs (two CableCARD and one OTA), plus a Prime for network tuners. The tech stated that as much as they would like to transition everyone over to streaming - the cable infrastructure is very much entrenched and is not likely to go away anytime soon. He indicated that a large number of their customers still use CableCARDs for TiVos and such and that they have no plans in the immediate future to discontinue support for them.
Despite that I realize CableCARDs are becoming an anomaly and Comcast has a significantly smaller staff supporting them than they have had in the past.
Wow - over the years ours have fluctuated between free and up to $10 each. Currently they are charging $10 each so I'm down to 3 active CableCARDs.
Where in WV? TV market? Here in Charles Town (Jefferson County/DC TV Market) I've still got 4 CableCARD functioning well. Here we have Motorolla/Arris cards. Were your cards PWRKey maybe?
I'm in Morgantown. Now that you mention it, yes, it was a SA PWRKey. They had sent us a notice a few months ago telling us that they couldn't replace any failed cards and weren't supporting them going forward. In some of the reading I've done since, it looks like I may have gotten hit by the clock bug. Either way, I was SOL as far as Comcast was concerned. I've since switched to YTTV and have been pretty pleased, $10 price hike notwithstanding. Still paying marginally less than what I was, so I'll call it a win.
Gotta sing the praises of Channels here (or "the purple app", as my family calls it)--I went from all of my non-OTA channels failing to 100% back in service in no time at all, which included a super-fast bug fix for TVE sources. No WAF sacrificed. The flexibility that this solution provides and the exemplary support of the staff behind it is just second to none!
I am petrified of losing my 3 cable cards (with 3 HDHR's)
I have often pulled out the CC and pushed it back in 9to make sure its snug) with zero effects - but will refrain from doing so moving forward
thank you for heads up
it appears that they will no re-pair the cards.... so be very careful so it doesn't get "disconnected"
you find another solution?
No - I'm done with CCs, have sold my devices and canceled my Channels subscription. I gave the Xfinity Stream app a chance, but it's pretty bad. I'll be cutting the cord with Comcast in the next week or so. Funny you should ask because today I just had ATT Fiber installed (1Gbit up and down), and I'm using Fubo for local/sports/regional baseball network. Together I will save about $100 per month over Comcast, I'll have faster internet speeds, and more flexibility to switch to lowest cost and best streaming apps.
As was just typing this as you were posting .... I will eventually cancel the rest of my Comcast and move to zippy fiber.
I was just wondering is there a replacement for a cable card that you can use so I can use a PC as a DVR… If not with Comcast maybe with YouTube TV or DIRECTV stream or some other provider that’s what I’m looking for
Nope. With Comcast, you can use their Xfinity Stream app, and it has a cloud-based DVR. If you use DirectTV (or Fubo or You Tube TV) they have cloud DVRs included with the service. If you want to use your own PC as a DVR, you can record over-the-air signals (you'll need an antenna and a tuner device - see SiliconDust for some options).
I want to record CABLE signals - onto my HTPC
right now cable card is the way i do it..
I do have a capture device and can off load from my cable box to PC, but thats not neartly as elegant and looking for alternative solutions
