OTA FOX quality Plex vs Channels

I was having a similar problem with all local channels via HDHR Quattro but not experiencing the issues with the HDHR Prime or TVE. This issue was only with the FireTV stick and not with iOS or AppleTV. So I hardwired the FireTV with an ethernet adapter and issue was resolved.

I must say this intrigues me. My Fire Stick is about a foot away from my FIOS gateway and connected on the 5GHz band. They are in an enclosure with the Harmony Hub and Roku, both hard wired to the gateway. The HDHR comes in via coax MoCA from my top floor where my antenna enters and my media server computer is. Both (and a Tablo) are hard wired to my access point. I wonder if there could be an interference in my cabinet devices. Only issue is everything else Fire works and Roku is fine, As a further observation, I was watching The Voice DVR'd and commercial skip and I notice immediately after the skip there were issues with sound & picture for a few seconds. Normal?

Have you tried changing Settings > Playback > Advanced > Video Decoder: Software

Yes. I noticed a playback issue on a com skipped recording and am changid back to hardware for tonight's recordings to see if there is a difference.

Please click Support > Submit Diagnostics in the app after you notice the issue and then post your HDHomeRun device ID so we can have a look.

Does 1079063D look like the number you are looking for?

Yes. But I didn't see any diagnostics come through with that ID from your Channels app

Haven't done the diagnostics yet, wife runs TV so until a show with action comes on it will have to wait.

As someone that had this same issue, it came down to the following for me:

  1. Wifi
  2. Firestick
  3. Fully resetting my firestick to factory and ensuring background apps weren't running.

As for other items (Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc). OTT vs OTA in house are very different delivery mechanisms.

I powered off and on the Fire (to correct a Netflix issue. I forgot and reconnected my wireless. Right now I'd say Fox is as good as NBC. Haven't done any Games yet. Will know tomorrow.
Thanks

I guess I don't know how to send diagnostics while watching a program. Do I have to do it from the Fire Stick? Go up to my server computer and do it? Install it on my phone and do it from there? I don't see a W10 app to do it from my Surface Pro.

On you fire tv go to Settings tab of the Channels app and click Support > Submit Diagnostics > Video Player

I sent some diagnostics last night. This morning there is football games by both Texas andTexas A&M at the same time on Fox and ESPN so I will be switching back and forth. We will see.

Please compare the official HDHomeRun app on the same FireTV with the same channel and see is there is any difference

I don't have the HDHR app on Fire Stick and no longer use it on Roku. I do have 3 months remaining in my subscription so I will load it and try to do the compare. This morning Channels looked good on Fox for the Texas vs Kansas game. Looked good on ESPN for A&M vs Auburn too.

The HDHR app is free and does not require a subscription. You can simply download it from Amazon store and play FOX to compare.

Not sure what you are getting at here. Fox on Channels is superior to Fox on HDHR (and HDHR is hard to use on Fire Stick). Fox Sports direct stream is better yet. I'd say Plex on Roku is best picture for OTA, Any direct stream on Fire stick is superior to Channels on Fire stick. Fire stick Channels is about the same as Tablo. Fire stick Channels is the fastest at changing channels of all. After the trial period I will go the $8/month route and start/stop my subscription as needed as I will go back to Roku as default choice. Honestly $80/year is too much when compared to Plex's lifetime rate. I'd think $30/year is more reasonable, maybe a little more considering the ability to add a streaming service to the guide.

Sweet!

Dropping Channels completely. Going back to Roku and using Fire Stick for travel. Will reconsider Channels when/if a Roku app is perfected.
