Passes for shows on MSNBC record on FX instead

I just got my Channels DVR set up and I am trying to set up some Passes on MSNBC shows. Here is what I do:

  • Open the guide
  • Navigate to MSNBC (channel 542)
  • Select the show
  • Select “Create Pass”
  • The color of the show in the guide changes to indicate it will record

Then, when I go to “DVR -> Schedule”, the upcoming recording shows FX (channel 558). And when the time comes, it records FX instead of MSNBC. This is not a case of the same show on 2 channels - these shows do not air on FX.

This happens whether I set up the recording via my Fire TV Channels app, or via the web interface. It does not happen if I select the show and set up a one-off recording.

On the web interface, in the scheduled recordings where it shows the icon for FX there are 3 channel numbers below:

FXwHD
558, 542, 542

558 is FX, 542 is MSNBC

I even removed FX from the HDHomeRun available channels, re-synced the guide data, and tried again - it STILL sets it up to record on FX.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

John

Hmm this looks like a guide data problem. Can you check on zap2it.com and see if it has the same issue?

That’s what I thought, but the guide seems correct and there are completely different shows on the 2 channels. If it helps, it is zip code 59803 and Charter Digital. And it happens with any show on MSNBC - I select the show on 542, the show on 542 changes color indicating “to be recorded”, but when I look at the schedule, it shows that it is set up to record on 558.

I am able to fix it via the web interface by setting the specific channel for the Passes so it is not urgent, but thought you would want to know about it. So strange!

Thanks!

Hi, sorry for the delay.

I poked around the guide database, and it shows FX and MSNBC as two separate channels. Perhaps there was an intermittent issue?

Can you check the Log tab of the DVR to see if any errors are shown there? I suspect it might be hitting some problems trying to talk to the guide servers.
