Passes not recording - Australia

Hi All

I am in Melbourne, Australia, & trying to set up Channels DVR, with a server on Win10, and clients on a couple of Chromecast With Google TVs, but having EPG issues. I like the interface, so would like to get it working, if possible.

I am using HDHomerun network tuners, and have linked the Channels DVR server to the HDHomerun EPG.

The result? Well, I can see live TV, and see the EPG (14 days), and can set a program to record from the EPG, and it will record that show. I cannot, however, get any 'Passes' to work. The system allows me to set up Passes, and shows them as being set, but then ...no recordings happen.

Under Settings, I can see the Passes, but nothing from the Passes is listed under 'Scheduled Recordings'.
(I also note that the selected 'Pass' shows do not appear flagged as 'to be recorded' in any way in the EPG - I expected a red dot, or different coloured entry, or something.)

Channels Support suggested I update to 'pre-release', which I have done (a few times now), but no change.
I have downloaded logs & emailed to Support, but that also didn't seem to provide any useful information.

As I am not in the US, I thought I'd ask here, as maybe there's a fellow Australian on the forum who has had the same problems. (eg is there something about HDHomerun EPG in Oz I don't know about?)

My Plan B is to try IceTV EPG (local Aussie EPG, which I used back in the Windows MediaCenter days), but not sure exactly how to go about this - is it just a case of inputting the appropriate URL for their XML file, into Channels DVR?

Apologies for the extremely long post & thanks in advance.

Andy

HDHomeRun EPG changed recently and no longer marks episodes as New. You would need to change your Passes to record all episodes.

Or you can switch to IceTV

I found this was happening for me too - due to lack of 'new' tagging. Such is life. Easiest way to get things working again was to:

  • Remove 'new' tag from pass
  • Set channel number to main channel (90, 70 etc...) to avoid recording older episodes/re-runs
  • Where needed, set the advance pass options to set the season number greater than (again, avoid re-runs)
  • Set auto-delete rules accordingly.

Sometimes I have the issue where old episodes are marked as new even though they aren't. One day I had 10 "new" episodes becuase they had a mini marathon and marked all of them as new. What worked for me was to set an advanced pass that included 8pm or 9pm or 10pm (this particular show only has new episodes in primetime). It could also work in the case where nothing is marked as new.

You can email [email protected] and let them know the XMLTV guide data is not marking new episodes correctly

Hi again

Big thanks to all who explained to me about no 'New' tags in HDHR Guide data; by setting my Passes to 'All Episodes', I now have scheduled recordings in my EPG - yay!

Still a bit clunky, as this will mean repeats get recorded, unless I manually 'Unschedule' the duplicate showings, as far as I can tell.

...but no doubt SiliconDust are working on a fix; I am happy to wait.

Thanks again,

Andy
