Don’t know how many others would like this, but from time to time I am watching something and find I don’t like the way the broadcast has been edited, or that they are just showing too many commercials, etc… and I go hunt Hulu/Netflix, WatchDisney Channel App, or my own library (iTunes purchases) for the same program/movie.

I know the new AppleTV Search function allows you to see all the viewing options for a show based on the installed applications you have. Is this something you guys could leverage. “Play from My other Sources”?

As great as it would be, it’s pretty complicated to implement. None of these sources have any kind of public index.

And on top of that, we’d have to be able to open the apps directly to the content. Not every app has that ability.

And even more on top of that, where do we start and stop for support? Everyone has their favorite sources. So it’d be a constant chase of supporting apps and maintaining it. And inevitably someone’s going to be upset that their favorite source isn’t supported. At that point were basically in the same boat as Universal Siri Search is now. A VIP club with everyone upset that not everything is supported.

And at the end of the day it’s really just a hack. We’ve been building media center stuff personally around hacks for years. It’s great when it’s just for personal use, but stinks when it breaks. So with Channels, were definitely trying to stay away from hacks.
