Playback controls for IR remotes

I tested this out this morning and from what I can tell this is how it’s setup:
Play = Play/Pause
Pause = Play/Pause
Stop = Nothing
FastForward = Skip forward 30 seconds
Rewind = Skip back 7 seconds
SkipForward = Nothing
SkipBackward = Nothing
Arrow Right = Skip forward 30 seconds
Arrow Left = Skip back 7 seconds

Is there thoughts to change it to something like this?
Play = Play/Pause
Pause = Play/Pause
Stop = Stop playback
FastForward = Fast forwarding (currently what we get by holding the arrow right button)
Rewind = Rewind (currently what we get by holding the arrow left button)
SkipForward = Commercial skip forward (currently double clicking right)
SkipBackward = Jump back to last break (currently double clicking left)
Arrow Right = Skip forward 30 seconds
Arrow Left = Skip back 7 seconds

It would definitely increase WAF, too. She hates the double clicking and holding to fast forward/rewind when there’s buttons for that.

To be honest, that’s exactly what it SHOULD be right now, lol.

Testing on this stuff hasn’t been thorough yet. Expect a new beta tonight on this stuff.

Thanks!

Awesome, I’ll know what to look for now when I’m testing it. Thanks @maddox.

@timstephens24 What kind of remote? Did you do the “learn remote” dance on the Apple TV, or was it preset with an ATV setting?

It’s a Harmony Elite, so I use the Apple TV profile that Harmony provides. All my other remotes are Harmony, too.

Weird. Stop button should be working, as should the skip buttons. Basically everything is supposed to work like your “wishlist” already.

I just tested in my living room with a Harmony Hub and remote, and it’s a different story (only thing not working is fast forward and rewind):

Play = Play/Pause
Pause = Play/Pause
Stop = Stop
FastForward = Nothing
Rewind = Nothing
SkipForward = Commerical Skip Forward
SkipBackwards = Commercial Skip Backwards
Arrow Right = Skip forward 30 seconds
Arrow Left = Skip back 7 seconds

Currently need to click and hold these buttons to FF/Rewind.

Wonder what’s up with the Harmony Elite… can you try doing the “Learn Remote” thing to see if that fixes the IR mappings?

That would be the problem, since on all the new Harmony remotes they use long press for SkipForward/SkipBackward. There’s no way to hold those buttons without activating the secondary buttons unless you don’t have a secondary button set.

I just got it working, I had to delete the Apple TV device and re-add it, then it all worked like the other remote.

Interesting, good to know.

Ah. I think @maddox is planning to change rewind/ff not to use click-and-hold, so this should be fixed with the new beta tonight.

This may be because it was using the original Apple TV device in their database. Did you set that up in Oct of 2015 when it first came out?

They’ve since remade Apple TV profiles with “Apple TV 4” and “Apple TV 2/3” profiles. So something may have changed. I know that with the original profile, my skip buttons worked on things like Netflix and Plex. But after re-adding my device with the new profiles, it stopped working.

Yup, this was the first Apple TV 4 I got, so it was set to it way back then. I thought when I did updates it would have updated the profiles as well but I guess that’s not how it works. Good info to have either way, thanks for the help/updates on the app.
