Playback pauses after catching up to live

When starting a show on delay (a sporting event, for example) and then skipping forward and catching up to live, playback will pause and skip once I get to live. If I back it up by 10 seconds then everything is fine. Is there a way to set the client so this doesn't happen?

Another example of the same thing: if I'm watching something and am already live and then happen to reach down and press forward-skip during a commercial out of habit, there's a pause while the client figures out what's going on, then it resumes playing, and then like 10 seconds later it stutters for a half-second here or there a few times.

I would think that the client would know "I'm already at live, ignore the forward skip" or even "I'm already at live, let me show some visual feedback to the user to communicate that."

Is there anything that can be done (either on the dev side or some setting on my end) to avoid this? It's a scenario we find ourselves in often.

(Also, I'm honestly not sure if this is something which better belongs in the DVR category, so please feel free to move it there if that's better. Thanks!)

Do you experience it when watching an in progress recording, or only with Live TV?
If Live TV only, do you have tuner sharing enabled on your client?

I rarely watch live TV straight, so this is something I've only experienced when watching an in-progress recording.

And this is all with TVE, so I don't think tuner-sharing applies.

I've experienced this as well and I'm guessing what happens is you are skipping past the current time and it'll hold until time catches up. Example you're 20 seconds behind live, hit the skip forward 30 seconds, it'll pause for 10 seconds until the timeline catches up. Just a guess though.

I think you're spot-on. And that's what I'm thinking should be fixed... the client shouldn't "let" us fast-forward into the future... It should know we're at "live" and just either not fast-forward, or provide some subtle, visual feedback which communicates "we're at live... we can't fast-forward into the future".

Yes I’ve mentioned this behavior in the past and if my memory is correct the devs said it’s something they would like to improve. Of course, my memory isn’t what it used to be…
