Playback unwatchable - speedtest shows very slow speed

Hi all,

I'm experiencing a strange issue on my AppleTV (1080p version), running tvOS 17.6. Recently playback started stuttering to the extent that recordings are not watchable. The recordings are streaming from a Synology nas.

The Channels speedtest shows that I'm only getting 25Mbps down and 140Mbps up, on both ethernet and WiFi.

I also have Channels installed on a Google TV dongle and it is working fine over WiFi. Speedtest is showing speeds up to 200Mbps.

What could be going on? What can I do to troubleshoot this?

I've submitted diagnostics from both devices, in case that helps.

Thanks!

Just reporting back to say I resolved this by disabling Tailscale. Not sure why this was causing an issue in the first place.

Interesting. Which Tailscale did you disable?
Channels DVR tvOS client integrated Tailscale
AppleTV Tailscale app

Channels DVR Server integrated Tailscale
Synology NAS Tailscale package

I unchecked in the option in Channels DVR Server settings and the issues resolved.

It does mean I have to revert to a different method of remote access until I find time to investigate further.

You should be able to use the Tailscale Synology package on your NAS (I do) and the Tailscale AppleTV app on your AppleTV (I use the Tailscale iOS app on my iPhone).

The developers recommend that approach instead of using the Channels integrated Tailscale.
