PlayOn/Channels: (null) metadata issue? AND PlayOn without Cloud OR Desktop option?

I want to start with how much I have LOVED our transition to Channels, and how it "just works" the way I would like for such a software to function. It's been wonderful. The addition of PlayOn integration, has fit right in with this same function and philosophy, and is another game changer to me.

A few questions however that I can break out into separate threads if preferred.

  1. Seldom videos show (null) as far as the metadata is concerned, and also don't display any artwork after they sync over to Channels from PlayOn. Ideas on cause and resolution? Thus far it has only occurred with movies, but they are "common" and some have been part of a series where most of the similar ones have no issue (so I'm thinking it's not an obscurity issue).
*ETA: I just tried "Refresh Metadata" from the server side to no avail.

  2. We're currently using PlayOn Cloud, but quickly ran out of credits and purchased additional recording credits. I've read on this forum that it's perhaps recommended to simply purchase recording credits. We're Mac based at home, and thus installing the PlayOn Desktop software would not be a simple undertaking. My question is: Is it possible to use PlayOn solely via using download credits (without Cloud OR Desktop)? And if so, where are they stored for Channels to be able to access for downloading?

Could you list the file names of all the content that didn’t get scanned in correctly?

Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016).mp4
The Princess Bride (1987).mp4
Enemy At The Gates (2001).mp4
Snow White and the Huntsman Unrated Version.mp4
Marvel Studios' Avengers Endgame (2019).mp4

Please click Support > Submit Diagnostics on your dvr web UI.

There you can also click the drop down next to Check for Update to upgrade to the prerelease.

Then click DVR > Manage > Imports > Movies and you will be able to fix the incorrect matches for those files.

Great, thank you. These titles are all good to go now.

Please let me know if a PlayOn Cloud account is needed to utilize PlayOn Anytime credits for the ongoing acquisition and syncing of downloads.

I understand that this may need to be asked directly with PlayOn. I've tried to find a definitive answer on their site but was unable, but also thought it might be best to have an answer over here as well to help Channels patrons with the same question/concern.

This is the closest answer I've been able to find on their site:

  • Store in the cloud free for 7 days; indefinitely with optional storage plan

A cloud storage plan is not required. Since recordings are downloaded into Channels right away, you don't need cloud storage to keep them around for longer than seven days.

Okay great. I was uncertain whether a cloud plan was needed as a “base plan” at all.

Thank you clarifying.
