PlayOn recording quality and settings?

A question about PlayOn:

Having just started using PlayOn, I am pretty dissatisfied with the video quality (I have only recorded from Vudu -- both free and purchased content -- which then downloads into Channels).

Does anyone know what the optimal recording settings are? I used the FullHD setting in PlayOn, but it looks awful to me. I've seen some Reddit duscussion that PlayOn's "FullHD" might actually be worse than their "HD".

Anyone with experience with this? TIA!

How is PlayOn still able to record NBC?

There’s not much else you can adjust.

What makes PlayOn quality subpar isn’t the resolution as much as it’s the framerate. From my experience it’s not the typical 24fps you’d expect. It’s bounces between weird frame rates like 28 and 32.

While some content looks just fine like this, some others like fast moving action will feel real bad.

My undertanding is they're using variable frame rate HEVC to record for their FullHD setting.
