Please swap the controls from top to bottom. This would make it more hand friendly than then to reach all the way up and adjust your grip to skip or rewind.
If possible it would be great if you could copy some of the gesture commands from YouTube app uses such as double tapping the right side while the video is playing to skip forward or double tapping the left side to skip back.

We agree, and redesigning the video player on mobile has been on the list for a while. Hang in there.
For now, you can swipe left or right to skip forward and backward. Those gestures are there.
While we wait for the overhaul, can you at least swap top and bottom just to make it a bit friendlier for now? If it just as much work we can wait for the overhaul.
It's not something that can be swapped like that.
It is un-natural to watch video that is widescreen, in portrait mode.
(unless you are talking about YT Shorts that are all vertical video)
But, yea, good point abut the player controls being on the top vs the bottom...never noticed that.
All other player apps i have used, controls are on the bottom.
That image, shows an old style iphone with a home button. Those are much smaller phones back then and are easy to navigate with one hand compared to todays much larger screen phones.
