Please Reconsider and keep the support for Raspberry Pi DVR

Please listen to your users and keep the raspberry pi image, I've been with you from the start and this has been rock solid and fits my needs as many other users as well, please reconsider your decision.

I second that motion. I am a fairly new user that came over from TiVo. I absolutely love the Channels platform and it runs perfectly on my Raspberry Pi5.

I understand that it is only the image that will no longer be maintained and Channels DVR on Raspberry Pi will continue to receive updates, however the fact that you are dropping support on the image is good indicator of where things are probably headed for Channels DVR on Raspberry Pi.

Are you willing to pay extra for the development needed to continuously support those features? If not, which Channels features would you like to sacrifice for continued support of the Pi?

As far as I remember, the Channels team is a total of 4 individuals.

yes i would be willing to pay extra on top of my monthly cost

Just install DietPi OS and install CDVR server. DietPi has extensive documentation and is far more configurable, including OC the Pi. I found it to perform slightly better on the Pi4b than Channels custom image.(back when i used the Pi4b).

As would I.

i just hope the developers listen to the users, channels is outstanding, and it supporting so many devices is amazing i understand that they have to cut back a little, but us tinkers use pi,s a lot with many different projects i just hope that they understand that using these small devices drives lots of people. I dont mind upping to help wth development. mine is used for channels everywhere and OTA ntsc 3.0 it serves my whole house.

I'd rather spend the $189 now on a new N150 beelink box and enjoy the next 5+years trouble free and no monthly cost increases

I can run my Unifi Network controller from that box too so there's added benefit to moving to a W11 box for me. The Raspberry Pi DVR doesn't owe me a dime as far as I'm concerned.

I've been using a RP 4b for the last two years, with the Channels built image for it. I just this week switched to a Beelink Mini S computer running Windows 11pro.

There's NO comparison between the Beelink, and the RP. The Beelink runs RINGS around the RP, in everything. Commercial detection on the RP using 2 cores = 1/2 hour PLUS. Same file on the Beelink using 2 cores = 3 minutes.

Remote access out of the house, the Beelink handles that much better also, no stuttering, glitches, or waiting to buffer.

Yeah, there's some birthing pains switching, but IMO, it's the way to go now.

My biggest gripe with this is the timing of notifying us of this. It would have been better before the holidays. I could have got a deal on a new mini PC then. Please keep this in mind when you are considering sunsetting support for devices.

Here's what you do, IF you use Amazon to buy, and think the price is too high right now, and are willing to wait for a deal. Find whatever you want to buy, in this case a mini pc, etc. IF you put things you want to watch in your cart, then do a "save for later", you can go to your Cart on a return to the page, and check that the prices have gone UP or DOWN. Grab it when it's at a price you like. It's amazing they jack UP or LOWER prices on some items constantly...

Personally, I just bought last Saturday a Beelink Mini S Alder Lake pc for $129. It went to $169 for a few days, and is now BACK to $129. Killer deal.

OR, use https://camelcamelcamel.com/ , place what you want in there to watch, set a price level where you'd like to buy, and wait until it emails you.

MS Edge browser also has a built in feature to monitor prices of products/notify you deals on other sites (and does not steal commissions from content creators by inserting their own coupon codes, like a certain browser extension)

Ultimately the developers are free to support, or not support whatever platforms they wish. I suppose they have to decide which path is best for business.

I chose Channels specifically for Pi support. If it’s ended or reduced in functionality and I have to upgrade my hardware, I will switch to a different product. None of us are obligated to use Channels.

Good luck finding a better product if you have one in mind, please let us know.

I’m planning to test Plex, I used to work with someone who was a programmer there a few years back (I’m too old to use ‘coder’). It sounded like a good product, I wasn’t looking to switch at that time, and running the Channels server on a cheap and reliable Pi initially brought me here.

Worst DVR ever ... good luck... I have a lifetime subscription to Plex and have completely uninstalled it.

I present you all... a fully supported for all time, Raspberry Pie!
Enjoy!
