Didn't even know you could do that. Which units are compatible?

Are the HDHR units 5V3A? 15W or thereabouts?

5Volt 1.5Amp regulated power adapter (higher Amp rating ok)
1.7mm ID / 4.0mm OD plug, 9.5mm depth, center positive
Max 5.25V @ no-load
Min 4.75V @ 1.5A
Noise ⇐ 150mVp-p

I am tired of these large wall warts.

Looks like they range from 5 to 12v, 1 to 2/12 amp depending on model.

Mine fall in this category ...
5Volt 1.5Amp regulated power adapter (higher Amp rating ok)

  • HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO (HDHR5-2US)
  • HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO (HDHR5-4US)
  • HDHomeRun CONNECT 4K (HDHR5-4K)
  • HDHomeRun SCRIBE DUO (HDVR-2US-1TB)
  • HDHomeRun SCRIBE QUATRO (HDVR-4US-1TB)
  • HDHomeRun SERVIO (HHDD-2TB)

Not compatible with HDHomeRun CONNECT (HDHR4-2US), HDHomeRun SCRIBE 4K (HDVR-4K-1TB), or FLEX models.

I've used this unit before with older Raspberry Pi's, and its worked well:

You'd need to source a 1.35mm x 3.5mm to 1.7mm x 4.00mm adapter though. The question is whether that adapter can be found in the US -- you might need to get it from China.

I found this on reddit ... My problem is that I know squat about AMPS etc ...

You could use this splitter and splice one of these on the end

Thanks added to my list I am going to try these ... The HDHR units are only 100 ethernet.

Amazon.com: ANVISION 4-Pack 5V PoE Splitter, 48V to 5V 2.4A Adapter, Plug 3.5mm x 1.35mm, 5.5mm x 2.1mm Connector, IEEE 802.3af Compliant, for IP Camera and More : Electronics

Non splice adapter here

The drawback to that is he's going to be using two adapters. It'd probably be fine, but it's another point of portential failure.

Thanks all for your contributions ... Will let you all know Mon/Tues if and when I get it to work. I was more worried about the Model: 4.0mm x and you guys gave me options ... Thanks

I just tried these units with Prime tuners, and they don't seem to see ethernet.

Am I missing something? Or will these not work with the Prime model?

I have not tried these with my primes only the ota tuners which I have all connected to POE ... I could test a prime.

@maddox .. I got ethernet ... What I always do with these adapters is connect the device to the POE switch and the ethernet port on the device then I connect the Power ... Always connect the power last to the hdhr device.
