Is it possible to remotely refresh a playlist on a tvOS client? I use a deep link to launch Channels on tvOS and play a custom playlist. However, the playlist shows old items unless I manually refresh it from the client. Is there a work around for this?
You could:
- Enable debug logging on the server
- Issue a manual refresh from your local client for the playlist
- Note the API endpoint hit by the client in the logs
- Issue the same/similar call to the same endpoint via
curl(orpostmanor whichever REST client you prefer) from your remote device
(Remotely logging in via SSH or some other means may be necessary for your remote device to access your home's LAN.)
Thanks for the reply. That said, I don’t see an option to enable debug logging on the server.
Check under the "Experimental" settings. There was one that used to log every request made to the server ...
That did the trick. This is the link which appeared in the logs. [HTTP] | 200 | 1.810458ms | 192.168.1.114 | GET "/dvr/search/files?q=title%3DYouTube%20watched%3Dfalse%20"
My confusion is regarding where I should send this command from and how does it cause a refresh on the client, in this case an Apple TV?
Thanks so much for your help
This is your AppleTV requesting the list of files titled YouTube that have not yet been watched.
Your playlist looks to be dynamic, and therefore its state is not permanent/static (as in a list of MCU movies in chronological order). When the AppleTV pulls up the playlist, it is getting a fresh listing of content. The playlist is not actually refreshed per se, but rather every time the AppleTV pulls up the playlist it is getting a new list of content generated at that moment.
As such, as far as I can tell there isn't anything to actually refresh, because your playlist only exists at the moment it requested.
Makes perfect sense. I wonder if keeping the Channels app open to this playlist on my Mac will cause this playlist to stay up to date?
Doubtful. It seems like the playlist is only updated when it is accessed/queried for, so to get the "update", you need to reload the playlist.
(Perhaps the playlist should be retrieved anew when returning to it after playback of an item ... this is perhaps the solution.)
Thanks for your help, I guess I’ll just deal with it…. Not the end of the world…
