Power failure caused DVR problems

Last night a storm made our house power flicker several times in a short period of time. When everything came back up, I could watch live TV from my antenna, but recordings and TVE shows were unavailable.

When I try to watch a TVE channel I get the error "stat/media/Recordings/Data/Streaming: no such file or directory".

And when I try to watch a recording I get "Recording Not Found (-13)"

I can log into the RPi4 from the network without issue.

I have power cycled my RPi4 and my external hard drive. It appears that my hard drive is the issue.

Any suggestions on how to get things working correctly again?

  1. Always remember to submit diagnostic reports then reference the # so mods can help
  1. Log into you RPI4. Is your external HDD still mounted/connected. If its not showing up on RPi4 then start there.

  2. If your hard drive is showing. Can you manually play back recorded files in your media player ( i use VLC). It is possible your external Hard drive got damaged from lights flickering / power surge.

  1. Verify RPi4 is conected to the internet, not just network. Can RPi4 actually access external internet.

  2. Anytime you get playback issues on live TV. First thing to try is rescan the source. If that doesn't work then remove and re-add source.

  3. ALWAYS submit diagnostic reports

You may want to invest in a small UPS to ensure uptime when you have minor power interruptions. If you powered your cable modem, router, and pi off of this you could probably sustain a loss of about an hour. Ive got a backup generator but I use a few of these to bridge the 10 second gap between the power going out and the generator flipping over

I have had this happen several times. If i pull the usb drive and plug it jnto my windows compuuter and run a check disk it finds errors and fixes it. When i plug it back in it works fine. I like tge UPS power back up idea as i believe the fat table gets just enough corrupted that the PI cant read it.

Thanks. I just got a chance to plug it into my work computer (Windows) and open Disk Management, it shows the drive as "3726.01 GB RAW, Healthy (Basic Data Partition)", but I cannot open it.

When I click on it in File Explorer I get "D:/ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect."

This is a good idea once I get this fixed.

Go figure. When I had given up and decided to format the drive and start over, it was recognized by the checkdisc app and let me scan it. It had errors and they were repaired. It appears to be working normally again now. I won't know for sure until I get it home and plug it into my Channels server, but I am hopeful.

BTW, I will be getting a UPS to try to keep this from happening again.

Yeah, glad it found it, i have done this several times, very frustrating. I did just the other day plug it into my UPC, so hopefully that will buffer this issue in the future. Best of luck! Enjoy as i love channels next step is to bump my antenna system up as i have a few channels i have a tuff time bringing in.
