Just set up my new HDHomeRun and installed Channels on my AppleTV.
My first impression is that this is a fantastic app. Over the last few years I have used several FreeView set top boxes (Virgin TiVo, YouView, Humax FreeView Play) and Channels blows them all out of the water. This is my first experience of FreeView that hasn’t been sluggish, laggy and frustrating.
I haven’t needed to use it, but I’m really impressed that the HDHomeRun firmware can be updated from within the app. That’s a very useful feature for those of us without computers who are embracing an iOS only lifestyle.
I’ve got to save up for a NAS first, but I’ll certainly be trying the DVR option in the future.
After a couple of hours’ viewing, though, I’d really like to see the current time displayed in more places — the favourites bar, the on now screen, etc. Basically everywhere apart from on the programme itself.
