The recent pre-releases lie when you ask them to check for a newer pre-release -- they say they are "up to date", but if you look at the log they are actually downloading a newer version, and do load it after the download is complete -- so it wasn't "up-to-date". . .
Works for me. What browser?
Edge browser.
Here in Firefox or Chrome it won't update if there are tasks going on with the server such as recording or comskip. It updates automatically when the server tasks are done.
In all the cases I have seen the "lie" the server was idle at the time. I understand the delayed update when busy, and have seen it clearly indicate that it was waiting to update until idle at other times when busy.
Odd that you refer to it as a "lie". Perhaps it's simply a "bug".
From Merriam-Webster: lie = something that misleads or deceives
I would say a lie is deliberate, a bug is a programming error.
It just did it again -- it said 7.10 was "Up to date", and the I look in the log and it is downloading 7.12.
This could also easily be a browser cache issue. Have you tried refreshing the browser?
Also, if you're just querying for the newest pre-release, why not check: https://channels-dvr.s3.amazonaws.com/prerelease.json
This is what kills a forum:
- You post a description of inexplicable behavior.
- You are criticized not because anything you said didn't happen, but because someone didn't like your choice of words.
- It is then then suggested it is some how your fault for having observed the anomaly.
This is not how science and engineering is supposed to work, but hey, what do fanbois care?
Bye.
Next time you see it post a sceenshot.
I know it says Up to date right after it updates with the old version still displaying until the browser refreshes.
I have lots of issues with the browser not refreshing all over the Channels DVR web UI.
Especially after emptying Trash. I've posted before on these issues since some new framework was introduced a long time ago. I've just got in the habit of refreshing the browser page all the time.
Theory:
I think the up to date means you are at current stable version or higher.
If your upgrading to beta, you are at a version above the current stable release. Therefore you are "up to date"
So I wouldn't call it a lie. I think the software and you just interpret the same data differently.
I agree with software view. Betas do not count as being up to date. However i could be wrong in my theory.
However squabbling over terms lie, mislead, bug. I agree is pointless. Regardless of terminology you choose. We understand the meaning/complaint you are trying to convey.
