Prerelease check API, can response return result?

I use the API to periodically check for (and install) pre-releases. Currently, it only ever returns true. I know this would be low priority, but would it be possible to have the response indicate if there is in fact an update?

This is not easy to change. You can query the other APIs used by the web UI that check if an update is in progress
