Pricing model

Now I know it probably violates some marketing principal to announce the price of a product before it is introduced, so I won’t even ask. But what I am curious about is how Channels DVR will be priced. Will it be a monthly fee (like a cable bill) or a one time fee? My two cents: Most of us cord cutters are trying to get away from monthly (or yearly) fees. My preference is a one-time, lifetime cost (and priced better than Plex Pass, TiVo, Tablo, etc lifetime costs).

As mentioned in previous DVR State of the Unions, it will be a monthly subscription. More info to come soon.

Thanks for the heads up. I got that it was a paid service, but I must have missed the monthly subscription part. I’ll sit tight then and wait to see the pricing structure…

Glad to hear it! Channels is by far the best live TV HDHR app out there. Can’t wait to see what you guys have cooking up for DVR.

I don’t remember reading anything about a monthly payment structure either. It’s definitely a shame to hear as I was looking forward to the service, but a monthly payment likely means this will be a deal breaker for us.

Why does everyone always want a monthly cost, I left cable and sat to lower my monthly bills.

Probably because it costs them monthly, so they’re passing that to us. People get mad with monthly payments and people get mad when you make a ton of upgrades/enhancements to the app, and charge for the new version. It seems like there’s no winning for app developers now-a-days since everyone wants apps to be free or very low cost, while the people behind the app need to eat.
