Program overlap missing 2nd show

First I have to say that you are a machine! I cant believe how many posts you responded to yesterday. You must be exhausted.

I have had another problem with recording that plagued me on the other DVR as well .So yesterday I tried recording Big Bang Theory reruns. There is one at 5:30 and a second at 6:00 on the CW. They don’t start on time, they actually start early like 5:29 but the schedule says 5:30, and therefore they end early. I think it was one minute, but it might have been 1.5 or 2. All the commercials were detected properly. The problem I had was that I set the record for +30sec (not knowing it wasn’t enough) before and after.

the beginning of the second episode is on the end of the first episode and then the second didn’t record at all. i presume that the DVR saw that the channel was recording, and didn’t know that the first was winding down and that it should have consumed a second tuner during the overlap.

can I set a program to start early and end early, or start at a time and run for a specific time?

I second the machine comment, it is quite impressive.

This sounds like something other than overlap; I am pretty sure that if there are two shows on the same channel that overlap due to padding a second tuner (if available) will be used. Were tuners available at the time the second show was being recorded (you might be able to find that in the logs). I’ve not seen an option to end a show early (i.e. negative padding), nor have I seen the ability to record a channel for a period of time independent of the show(s) on that channel, although I could be mistaken.

I know nobody was using any tuners in the house at all, since we weren’t there. I can definitely reset both my Connect and my Extend, to recoup any possible hung tuners. since we only have 2 TVs + the DVR, it should always have 2 tuners available.

i need to go find the logs too.

Email me your channels-dvr.log to [email protected] and I can check to see what happened.

All right. I feel like an idiot. the recordings were there and fine. i expected that when i selected the Show’s card that I would see all the episodes to choose, instead it shows just one episode, evidently the lowest S00E00 number that is unplayed. so i watched the one episode and then when i wasn’t presented with a list, i just quit and went to bed and didn’t notice that i was being offered more. I was kinda expecting a screen similar to either Netflix with episodes on the right and detail on the left, or infuse, where i picked the season, then the episode i wanted to watch.

that is just going to take time because while it may be logical to some to automatically assume that i want to watch the lowest numbered unwatched episode, I was thinking, lets see what episodes i have and watch the most interesting. I guess its just because BBT is an old friend and I’ve seen all the episodes, so skipping around is different than a new series where i would definitely want to watch in order.

Sounds like you’re talking about the Up Next screen, which shows you the next episode to watch.

If you switch to the Shows tab, you can navigate into a show and see all the episodes.

yes, exactly. so i clicked recordings and i see the show, so i go down and select the show, because it is the show i want to watch and there isn’t a menu option for “up next” and “Shows” because its hidden. as soon as i select the show, i click it, not noticing that the menu bar changed and there is a different menu.

It’s just that I missed it because its new to me, and I need to learn the interface. I would have expected that when I select recordings, that I wouldn’t see a show, but I would see a sub menu, then when selecting either up next, shows or movies, then i would be presented with the show/movie cards. That’s typically what i see with websites and apps, not that the secondary and hidden sub menu has a default selection already.
