QNAP install - Cannot open Channels DVR Beta from QNAP Menu (Error BAD REQUEST)

  1. I subscribed to the Channels DVR Beta.
  2. Downloaded the package for my QNAP NAS TS-251+
  3. installed the package successfully.
  4. When I select OPEN I get the following error

Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Reason: You’re speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port.

This means you had Virtualization Station running. You will need to stop it, or change the port it uses away from 8089.

There is a note about this on the qnap installation instructions as well.

I actually seen that note but didn’t quite understand what it meant.

Thank you very much for the response, it corrected the issue.

So let’s assume I want use virtualization station on my QNAP NAS. I cannot change ports 8088 and 8089 within virtualization station but will need to do that in Channels DVR. How is this done within the Channels DVR app?

There is no way to do that at this time. Channels DVR needs port 8089 and will not run if the port is in use by any other application.

I hope this can be configured in the future. I do use the virtualization station of my QNAP NAS as this is one of the huge benefits.

Why can’t you change the ports in the virtualization station settings?

I have a qnap nas as well. I changed the virtual port to 8090 instead so i can have 8089 for dvr.

Krblgc, how did you change the ports?

  1. Turn off DVR
  2. Start Virtualization Station
  3. Go the Settings inside Virtualization Station
  4. Change port from 8089 to 8090
  5. Start DVR

If you find the setting, please grab a screenshot and post here to help the next person who hits this issue.

Yup, that did it!!! Again, thank you very much.

How do you add screen shots to a post? I would like to do that next time.

Are you guys using or leveraging any of the transcoding functions of the QNAP TS-251+?

You can drag and drop images into your reply.

Yes, I have a TS-251+ as well and the DVR is able to take full advantage of the hardware transcoder.
