Hi all,
I have a new Channels DVR setup on a QNAP TS-264. Watching live TV, and recorded TV is perfect - note that I generally watch through a Firestick. Last night, I was watching an on-going recording - all was good. After I fast forwarded through a commercial break, playback began to stutter. Starting and stopping playback did not improve the situation. Restarting the Channels app on the Firestick did not improve the situation. Once I switched transcoding from hardware to software, everything was good again - the stuttering completely disappeared.
Is there anything I can review to improve hardware encoding? Or is this something that is not expected to be reliable?
Thanks.
You should do original quality so you dont transcode. Especially if you are on the same lan... really isnt a good reason if that is the case...
Thanks slampman. This is interesting - it was/is set to direct/original quality so there is not any transcoding occurring (after setting it to software, I actually checked the CPU usage on the server and nothing was over 3%). However, I set transcode to software on the client side - if I check the server side it is still set to hardware. Can the client side overwrite what the server is doing?
I have since turned off commercial detection - perhaps that was causing the stuttering? Since it is not transcoding, that is really the only other thing that is analyzing the stream.
