Question about GPU use

I am trying to build a separate media server for absolutely as cheap as I can out of parts that i already have. I'm not cheaping out on the CPU. It is a 3600x. My question is how cheap can I go with the GPU? I was looking at a Gtx660. Does the GPU matter at all with Channels?

Gpu would only matter if you offload transcoding to the card. 3600x is a beast of a cpu I would just go as cheap as possible on the gpu and use software transcoding

Thanks, I kind of figured as much but I wasn't 100% sure.
