Question about Passes, insufficient tuners, and encore showings

New DVR subscriber here! I have Channels DVR set up on my Windows 10 PC with a HD Homerun Extend Tuner. Everything seems to work well (besides being unable to set up new recordings from the Apple TV Guide, but that’s a topic for the Apple TV section).

However, I have a question. Next Sunday (9/17), there are three shows I’d like to record, if I can. The three shows are The Emmys (on CBS 8PM-whenever they finish), The Orville, (on Fox 8PM-9PM), and Ken Burns’ The Vietnam War (on PBS, 8PM-9:30PM).

Unfortunately, my Extend only has two tuners, but The Vietnam War has an encore showing from 9:30PM-11:00PM.

If I set up passes for all three, is Channels DVR smart enough to realize that it won’t have enough tuners for three concurrent recordings, notice that there’s an encore of The Vietnam War later on in the evening when a tuner will be free, and record that one instead of the first airing?

If it’s not, there’s a couple workarounds I have (I could watch the Emmys live through the antenna connected directly to my TV, or I could cancel The Vietnam War pass and set up manual recordings) but it would be super awesome if Channels DVR was smart enough to reschedule around tuner limitations automatically.

Thanks!

No. It will record the airings based on the priority of the passes. Which ever pass is sorted higher, will be chosen.

One other thing to understand is that manual recordings will be prioritized. So the emmys will record and 1 other item, depending on their ordering in your passes.

If your pass is set to record only New episodes, then the encore won’t match it. I don’t recall if we automatically reschedule passes after a recording fails, so even an All pass might fail to record a second showing on the same day.

Good to know, thanks! I’ll cancel the pass for the Vietnam War for now, manually set the encore episode to record, then after it airs create the pass again.
