Questions

1. What is the expected behavior when playing back a recording that is in progress? Right now it seems to disrupt the recording in some way
2. Is it planned to include live cache in the recording at some point? Meaning if I have watched 10-15 minutes of a program and decide to record will the saved recording include the previously cached video
3. Why is there such a big difference in end times between a series recording and a one time recording? When I setup a team pass using tvOS the most I could set the end time to was +15mins but when recording a single game from the live view I was given options up to +120mins

  1. It should not effect the recording in any way. Could you provide come more details?
  2. Since the buffer is on the client and not the server, the server can not incorporate it. There’s no plans to change this anytime soon.
  3. This is currently a bug.

On windows, make sure you disable Flow Control on your Ethernet adapter to avoid issues

I’ll test more later, the ATV is at my parents. In limited testing I chose to record a game using the live view favorites menu and set a +30min end time. While the game was going on I opened the recording. I first realized it didn’t up to live. After exiting the recording it had a green bar at the bottom of the thumbnail (not sure if this means ongoing or finished). 5 minutes later I tried the recording again and it was still the same 19min long recording. I went back to the live view of the game and in the Favorites pull down it no longer said “cancel recording” just gave the option to record. Whe I deleted the recording it did warn me that it was ongoing/incomplete.

When I try it again I’ll go through more detailed checks, look and see if the file size is still increasing and let the recording finish to see if it was in fact disrupted or if it is only a playback issue.

Update: Wasn’t able to replicate the issue I had with playback of an ongoing recording. Still not sure what happened last time.

On a side note I did have to force close the app once in order to get a deleted pass to go away, pretty sure it was just a UI issue.

I’ve been having the exact same issue. I did some testing tonight. I reorded 2 show at the same time and watched a third. No issues with the recordings. Recorded different episodes of the same shows and watched a third for a little over 20 minutes. I started watching one or the shows, then the other a few minutes later. The first one pixelated and had gargles audio 22 minutes in, the second one did the same 26 minutes in.

ATV4 on tvOS 10.2.2
Channels 2.1.36
Channels DVR 2017.09.01.0513
HD homerun prime on 20170815
Mac mini 7,1 with AC wifi
AirPort Extreme router with AC wifi

ATV4 and HD homerun are both wired to the router with cat7 cables.
Channels DVR is on the Mac mini about 15 feet from the router connected through wifi with a strong signal.

I’ve tried turning off tuner sharing.
Also turned excluded the channels file system and dvr folders from time machine backups

It’s also worth noting that I started using channels a couple months ago with tuner sharing and time machine backups enabled. Issues did not start occurring until a few weeks ago. The only changes I’m aware of are the channels DVR updates and HD Homerun firmware update.
