Quicksync on gen9 and gen10 intel CPUs? Linux

Anyone else having trouble getting quicksync to recognize on 9th and 10th gen CPUs?

I have it working perfectly on my 6th and 7th gen, even within docker (mapping /dev/dri) but on my i3-10100 CPU I just can't convince it to work. I'm assuming lack of support for the newest quicksync has something to do with it but I haven't been able to find the right combination of search terms.

Note, I do have plex working with the 10th gen for basic hardware transcoding (but not with the HDR tone mapper, software support missing)

Channels DVR doesn't support those processors yet.

ahh, well that explains my problem! is this on the roadmap yet? I know the guys over at plex have also had some issues with these CPUs because of changes to quicksync.

oh, and can you tell me, is the 8th gen the most recent supported or is it 7th?

AFAIK only gen10 and gen11 are unsupported at the moment.

IMO, this is the best $/performance platform with support for h.264 and h.265 and 14 simultaneous transcodes. A $300 + big HDD is an exceptional Channels DVR box once 10th gen CPUs are supported.

Initial results good, shows hardware enabled on the i3-10100 now!

just for others that are reading this, updated and did nothing else and it works. I've tried a variety of videos from MPEGTS to h264 and that's nice and smooth. I tried a few h.265 encoded MKVs (4k) and they wont play but that's not really an issue for me, just happy the TV stuff works. I'll test further to see if this is a specific issue with the combination or if it's h.265 at fault or what.

It appears to be h.265. I can't get any h.265 content to play. again, no bigging, very happy to have this as-is!

HEVC will only play in the apps, not the browser.

tmm1, I can't get it to play on my iphone either. channels shows some weird activity like 'transcoding complete' when trying to handle this and the client just spins.

Works here on my Unraid docker, thanks. This was the last I needed to go fully back to Intel and stop using my NVIDIA card.
