Looking for 3.0 Debug or PCAP Files
Post by Trip » Sat Sep 27, 2025 2:54 am

All,

I've been working on a tool for analysis of 3.0 signals akin to the TSReader software, and I'm trying to test it against as many existing 3.0 > signals as I can. It's currently written with the HDHR in mind as the primary type of receiver. I'm looking for people who might be able to > help me get data from signals that I haven't already received. I'm up to 90 signals thus far. If you're able to receive any of these stations > with your HDHR, I would love to get some data from you:

New York: WNYZ-LD
Dallas: K26KC-D/KNAV-LD
San Francisco: KBKF-LD
Atlanta: WTBS-LD
Sacramento: KEFM-LD
Seatte: KONG/KUNS
Tampa: WMOR
Denver: KWGN/KBRO-LD/KXDP-LD
San Diego: KRPE-LD
Charlotte: WAXN
Hartford: WEDN
San Antonio: KMYS/KSAT
Greenville SC: WMYA
Las Vegas: KLVG-LD
Fresno: KFRE/KMCF-LD
Tuscaloosa: WSES
Memphis: WPGF-LD
Baton Rouge: KZUP-CD
Des Moines: KDSM
Chattanooga: W26ET-D
Syracuse: WKOF/WSTM/WQSE-LD
Springfield MO: KOZL
Colorado Springs: K30JM-D
Springfield MA: WFXQ-CD
Fort Wayne: W30EH-D/WODP-LD
Charleston SC: WGWG
Lansing: WKAR
Wilmington: W30ER-D
Panama City: W25FK-D
Bryan: KNXG-LD/K20KJ-D/K36LD-D

I have some requests out that may not come though, so I may add a handful of others down the road. The steps for collecting the data are > here: Capturing 3.0 Data [RabbitEars Knowledge Base]

Thanks in advance!

I'm in the Indianapolis area if you need anything from around her in the future

I got to be beta-tester 2 weeks ago running this for Trip for WBSF in my DMA, and it worked well. He got the info he needed. It just took less than a minute to run it.

Ditto in Harrisburg.

Ditto in NY and Hartford - was able to get the 2 lighthouses. The leftovers aren't available to me.

I was contacted by them few weeks back.
I tried to provide the requested data, but their instructions did not work.
The URL (for the HDHR capture thing) does not work for me. Gave a 503 error no matter what i tried.
They only provided very minimal troubleshooting steps, eventually gave up.

Thanks for cross-posting this here. My analysis tool (written with the extensive help of Gemini and Claude) is really coming along and I'm getting really close to a public release in a partially-working format. It supports in mostly-fully-functional fashion:

  • Audio and video format information
  • Encryption status, hidden status, broadband required status
  • PLP information, including detailed information if available (Dev upgraded receivers only)
  • Signal signing information
  • BPS (Broadcast Positioning System) information

I have partial support for, and probably will not finish before a release:

  • ESG (guide data)
  • MMT (a type of signaling that a handful of stations are using)
  • Bitrates (long story)

There are a handful of other things I need to look into, like advanced emergency alerting information, but I'm not sure I will have any test data for it because I don't know if it's been implemented anywhere yet. I don't plan for anything else to hold up a release, I just need to fix some outstanding issues with the items in the top list.

Thanks, all.

All,

I'm very pleased to announce a public release of RENDER, the RabbitEars NextGen Data Evaluator and Reporter. Most of the relevant information can be found here:

https://www.rabbitears.info/kb/render

I've written the software for the Linux command line, but it's open source (GPLv3) and should be possible to compile on other platforms as well. Note that this is a very early experimental release. I can make no guarantees about the accuracy or functionality at this time.

I've also provided a link to view the output from all those files that folks have heard me chasing down over the past few weeks. As I continue develop the code, I'll periodically update and replace those files with versions using the newer code. Note that the heaviest testing I've done has been on the three DC-area signals and the one Baltimore-area signal, as they're local to me, but WHUT is the only station that I believe I have seen with BPS, which makes it particularly interesting.

By the way, I'm still looking for data from a number of stations to help with my testing and validation. The complete current list is now found below the instructions on this page here:

https://www.rabbitears.info/kb/capturing_3.0_data

Looking forward to feedback and opinions. Hope folks find it interesting and/or useful!

Hey Trip, I see you are still showing Harrisburg (specifically WLHY). That's a sub channel off of WHTM which is Channel 31 which I had sent to Mark from Rabbitears. I'm happy to recapture or resend if needed (though not sure how the capture method handles subchannels).

I'm both names. One's an alias for the other. =)

I do have your W16EJ-D, but I want to also separately capture WLHY-LD in case they are different in any way. I found several problems with the signal which I've reported to the station and I want to see if it's specific to W16EJ-D or if it's something further up the chain such that both signals are impacted. Assuming the government doesn't reopen today, I'll be headed up that way tomorrow to visit family and will try to get WLHY-LD then.

I've updated the list of markets to reflect that I now have KWGN and WZBJ-CD.
