Random Question: re: timeline marks

I have been curious for a while but haven't asked, but I am wondering what the small marks are in the timeline when watching a movie or show that doesn't have commercials marked in them?

I know the spaces in the timeline (the darker purple colors) in shows that I have commercials marked are just that, the places where commercials exist. They are usually wider than the ones I am talking about though. The ones I am talking about are very small in width and there are usually 5, 6 or 7 of them fairly evenly spaced out. I was thinking maybe they denote a chapter marked in the video but was wondering, if so, what is the purpose for them and how did they get there?

The hash marks in the timeline create equal gaps of time across it.

If the timeline, based on the start and end, is 1 hour in length, and there’s 4 sections, they are 15 min sections, meaning each hash mark is 15, 30, and 45 mins.

Ah, ok. What would that be useful for when watching a movie for example? Can we skip between them somehow?

No. They're just there to give you a sense of time.

Ok, thanks!
