Recommended embedded device for performance

Hello,

So I have a raspberry pi running my channels instance. It works OK.

Problem is that my upload speed is pretty bad, so there are times I wish I had better transcoding performance. While Raspberry Pi 4 can do most (but not all) MPEG2 transcoding tasks I throw at it, it's a little slow. Loading a video takes 20-30 seconds. ATSC 3.0 is unwatchingable

I know the NVIDIA Jetson is supposed to be similar, GPU-focused board. It's a little pricier, but not too crazy.

Are there benchmarks for different embedded systems? What sort of transcoding performance would one get on a Jetson and which one? They can be pretty high-end and I think a mid-grade board makes sense.

If you can find a 5 year old intel laptop with even an I-3, you will get much better performance. Run windows or Linux per what you like. This will be lower power than a desktop, you can set it to run with the screen off and use the USB hard drive you are using with your PI.

The jetson nano has a good transcoder and there is some basic driver support built into Channels DVR. It's fast, but there could be bugs in certain situations (interlacing, etc).

If you search the forums for jetson nano you should find more details.

Other boards tend to be underpowered for transcoding or missing driver support.
