Recording becomes pixelated after first hour of recording

I have a recurrent issue that happens with only with longer recordings. After recording for a half hour to an hour, the final hour of a two hour program will be severely pixelated and unwatchable. However, it continues to record the entire program and has moments where it will clear up and then revert back to pixelation. Interestingly, this has happen almost exclusively on my wife's recordings of "The Bachelor". I will post the logs from tonight.

Can you check the hdhomerun web ui logs for any errors?

This is interesting. Here is the log from hdhomerun.

That is what I suspected… the signal from the hdhomerun is cutting out, and then when the DVR tries to reconnect it fails.

Have you tried recording other shows from that channel? Or even just watching them live? There might be a signal quality issue affecting it.

You could check the signal strength/quality values on the hdhr web UI while that channel is streaming to see how they compare to some other channels.

I haven't tried recording other programs. Interestingly, I saw the "signal strength" for my cable card was at 60%, so I unplugged the hdhomerun, took the card out, replaced it and plugged the hdhomerun back in. Now the "signal strength" for my card is at 92%. The card was snug in the hdhomerun, so I'm not sure if it has anything to do with how the card was seated or if the hdhomerun just got a stronger signal after reboot. Thanks for looking into it.

Also, can your cable signal strength dip at times of high usage (during primetime)?

Honestly I’m not sure. We have some cablecard experts on the forum so maybe someone else can chime in.

Definitely curious to see if you have problems again after reseating the card. I had a similar issue happen once a couple years ago where the signal was inconsistent until I pulled out the card and reseated it.
