Recording Error "Failing: mkdir [directory]: invalid argument"

I'm having issues recording certain programs. Some will record successfully, while others will remain in a "queued" status and throw the below error, which makes me think there was an issue creating the directory. Oddly enough, some shows ARE able to be recorded, so the issue is only affecting certain programs:

Syntax of error in question
Failing: mkdir /volumeUSB1/usbshare/DVR/TV/[Program Name Here]: invalid argument

A real example:
2023/04/18 20:40:46.494813 [DVR] Error running job 1681862400-ch1 The Rookie

Log entries show similar:
2023/04/18 20:40:46.494813 [DVR] Error running job 1681862400-ch1 The Rookie
(NEW): mkdir /volumeUSB1/usbshare/DVR/TV/The Rookie
(NEW): invalid argument

A working recording I just tested:
2023/04/18 20:51:23.354382 [DVR] Starting job 1681862400-ch2 The Fugitive () on ch=[2]

2023/04/18 20:51:24.404947 [TNR] Opened connection to M3U-ChannelsDVR for ch2 AMC

At first, I thought this was related to my EPG inserting special "New" tags in the title with special characters that were not displaying properly in the log ("New" in superscript would appear as "☐☐☐" in the log), but after adjusting my EPG to use standard characters, the issue still persists.

I'm on Synology DSM 7 and have double-checked to ensure that the "channels" user has read/write permissions to the installation location as well as "DVR" folder where recordings are saved.

Any ideas? Anything I might be missing?

Edit: See here for a screenshot of the error as shown in the DVR "Schedule" section

Sounds like maybe it can't create directories with parenthesis in the name.

You need to check what filesystem your USB drive is formatted using and pick a more modern filesystem

Thank you for the quick reply!

The file system on my external USB HDD is exFAT. I also tested creating a folder called "(test)" and it was successful.

Could it possibly be something else? Or should I try to reformat to NTFS?

Strange, I'm not really sure. If you try to make that same "The Rookie (NEW)" does it work?

Yes, just tried creating "The Rookie (NEW)" within the /TV folder and it was successful..

I will try to format the drive and/or change the file system and report back.

Just to confirm, though, exFAT should be supported? Thanks again.

It should be yea, but maybe there is some issue with the exfat driver that the synology is using

So I formatted the drive as ext4 and it records perfectly now. I formatted back to exFAT and the issue returned, so now I'm back to ext4 and will leave it at that.

Could be the drive, or a Synology issue, like you mentioned..
