This has been brought up a couple of times, but those were years ago and I have a sample picture to make it more interest, so I am making a re-request.
It would be nice to have just a simple indicator that displays in the sidebar navigation menu that just lets us know that, "hey something is recording." Maybe just fill in the recordings circle (that is already there now) when recordings are occurring. I always enjoyed this with physical DVRs. Sure, in the guide if you are on a screen that happens to display something that is recording it does have a box with a red background. But most of the time you are probably not going to be on a screen with a currently recording show/movie. You might not even be in a channel collection that has the channel. Or somewhere else.
It is nice to have something that makes you go, "Hey something is recording. I wonder what that is." It's kind of like a discovery feature. You knew you wanted to see it. You get reminded its recording. You decide to watch it right away.
Some people might think it a fluff feature request. But you know, not every new feature or design element needs to be some major advancement. Sometimes it's the little things that can be impressive.
