I do not see that there is a way to "Protect" Recordings from being deleted. This would be especially helpful for media that is not being recorded but rather stored as part of collection (Unified media Server)
Content isn’t deleted immediately, instead it’s put into the Trash. This gives time to recover any accidents.
You can turn deletion off completely for imports, recordings, or both. You can even make this setting per client via Server Side Settings.
There is no way to mark a specific piece of content as undeletable.

Just to cover all bases. You can protect a recording that comes from a pass that has keep settings set to auto remove recordings. You can choose the Keep Forever option. This only protects it from the auto pruning though.
