Recording Skips and Can't Rewind

Having an issue where a playback jumps forward by several minutes. Even up to 15 minutes. NOT a commercial skip. And it will not let me rewind. Pushing the back button just flashes and it doesn't go back.

Not entirely sure on this, but it seems like it happens when 2 recordings were being made at the same time.

Server running on MAC. Playing back on Apple TV.

Possibly the stream was interrupted while recording. Check the logs from the admin page. If nothing shows up there, then try playing the file directly from disk.

It usually shows if there was an interruption. It shows the total length of the recording to be correct, in this case an hour.

But I should still be able to go backwards or rewind. And once it skips I can't do that.

I've seen the same when my antenna was not bringing a channel in well for the HD HomeRun. If I recall signal quality was lower than other recordings. This issue did not show a red explanation for the recording. As this was for PBD and I get 3 PBS stations, I blocked the one that had the weaker signal and all has been good since.

One thing you can try is to use the feature in Channels DVR to fix the timestamps.
There is no guarantee that it will fix your problem but it might.

Before you do it, make a copy of that recording file and save it in a safe location in case you need to restore it later.

Find that damaged recording on the Channels DVR server page and click on the gear icon for it. In the drop-down menu that opens, click on Fix Video Timestamps.
This action is irreversible and it modifies the original file.

If that doesn't fix the issue, you can always restore the original file from the copy you made earlier.

Thursday evening I recorded another show on the same channel. I also recorded it directly on my HDHomerun unit. Last night went to watch in using Channels. It started skipping. Switched over to the HDHomerun version. It was fine, no skipping, good picture all the way through. No commercial skipping obviously.

So it appears there is something in Channels that is causing the problem. Don't know if there is some setting or something that I have wrong. But I believe the majority of the settings are the default.

Or could it be something in the Apple TV app? Got another recording to watch sometime today. I will see what happens with it.

OK, last night I recorded another show that I didn't really need. Checked this morning and it skipped. I did the timestamps fix. And that fixed it.

I have the recordings set to start 5 minutes early and stop 5 minutes late. Usually it shows the recording length as roughly 70 minutes which would be correct. After doing the timestamp thing it showed total time as 57 minutes. Unfortunately I didn't think to look at what it was before.

So what is going on here and how do I fix it?

EDIT: Should point out that we were watching the program live while it was recording. Could that have some affect on it?

Strange. My suggestion would be to submit diagnostics from your server and write to [email protected] with details about the program that's having an issue.

Gonna do some experimenting over the next few days.

Record show while watching.
Record show while not watching.
See if there is any difference there.

Then try turning off Commercial detection and repeat the experiment.

As I stated before I am running the server on my MAC, which is also my main computer. As a general rule I'm not using the computer for anything else while watching or recording but I'm sure there are some background process's going on. I had an old Windows 10 computer I thought I would try but it has it's own problems and gave up on that.

Started running the server on a Windows 10 machine. I have not had a problem since. So something is fishy with running it on a Mac.
