Intermittent and random means there is no meaning to it. It works sometimes and not other times.
When the client is playing virtual channel or recording its doing the exact same thing.
But playing a recording never works. It isn't intermittent
Submit diagnostics after it works via virtual channel.

To answer your earlier question, modem with wifi built in. Am also using a switch keeping most stuff hard wired, tried bypassing that by using WiFi only and that didn't help
The DVR server is crashing. You need to update to a newer prerelease. There is a bug in the version you're using which affects 32-bit platforms. Your DVR server is running 32-bit linux for some reason.
(When watching a recording normally without virtual channels, the client tells the server how much you've watched so it can save that progress. That's where the crash is happening).
