Recordings Only Playing for a few seconds

Tried on Apple TV and Android, started a couple of days ago. On playing a recording it only runs for about 30 seconds and then goes back to menu, try again and same thing happens after about 3 seconds. Didn't see anything in the log.

Have rebooted everything. Help!

Can you play that recorded mpg file on your computer with VLC?

My daughter is on the computer right now. I know the files are ok because it is happening with all recordings including ones that played fine previously. In fact a Seinfeld episode was playing using Virtual Channels (great feature), and I then tried to also play it from "Recordings" section and it wouldn't play more than 30 seconds.

Submit diagnostics from the Apple TV after it happens.

Just sent 28fa859b-8270-4cf7-ac03-1ddeb4a315fd

We need client diagnostics submitted from the Apple TV client software.

Appreciate the support, but not sure how to do that

Go to settings in the app, then support, submit diagnostics.

Thanks. Done

The Apple TV does not have a stable connection to your network.

Thanks

Actually after doing that I noticed that all my collections were missing. i rebooted and they re-appeared. Still have same problem with recordings though.

If there is generally a problem with the Apple TV connection that doesn't explain why I can play recorded episodes as part of Collections. I also had same problem with Android (Tivo 4K).

Should I try rebooting the modem/router?

Is it on WiFi? Can you hard wire it? What does speedtest report at the Apple TV?

Yes WiFi, Android device is hard wired though. Will try stuff later, back at work now.

Thanks!

You can submit diagnostics from Android and I will look to see what it says.

Ok will do later.

Rebooted modem, same issue. Sent logs from TiVo 4K and Fire Stick

Same thing:

java.net.ConnectException: Failed to connect to /192.168.0.104:8089

Connection to tcp://192.168.0.104:8089 failed: Connection refused

Its happening at every client, or only in some locations?

Could be something on the router, or on the DVR server itself.

I have 3, mixture of hard wired and wireless. I am running Channels server on.a basic Unix computer. Could also try on a Mac which I have previously used.

Maybe re-install.Channels?

Also checked can still play the exact same recording on a virtual channel which is what confuses me.

The issue is at the network layer. Reinstalling software is not going to make a difference. Its an intermittent network problem that happens randomly. You are losing network connection. This could be due to a bad cable, wireless interference or other issue.

First step would be to diagram your network out and list out all the various devices and how they're connected to each other.

You mentioned a modem earlier.. modem is used to connect to the internet. The issue here is with your local network, not the internet connection. Is that modem also your own router, or do you have other routers/switches/wifi access points?

Ok thanks, but why do the virtual channels work on same network?
